How To Get A Job In The Music Industry: 3rd Edition
As of right now I am not certain what part of the industry I want to be a part of; there are many different aspects that I find to be exciting such as live events, touring, A&R, and social media/ marketing. Therefore, for this project I will be examining the music industry as a whole and how it is changing.
There are many jobs in various areas of the music industry such as touring, record labels, and publishing. One great resource I found was a 2006 study of the economic impact of the music industry on Nashville. In this study it states that there are about 19, 437 jobs in Nashville that are related to music, which includes performers and musicians. This is very important because a large number of people come to Nashville looking to be a part of the industry, yet there aren’t a huge amount of jobs available.
Looking at how the music industry is expected to change is a very important thing to do when planning a career. My Storify presentation below lays out several different points about how the industry is changing.

The Reality Of Your Music Industry Dream Job
Though this is not clearly laid out in my Storify presentation, something that I have heard countless times since I got to Nashville is that networking is the best thing you can do to find a job. An organization that I am part of is called YEP (Young Entertainment Professionals), which hosts events to help people get to know other professionals around Nashville.
I am also interested in the live event aspect of the music industry, which is still predicted to have many jobs and be vital to the industry in the future.
Overall, I think that the music industry is complex and constantly trying to evolve to fit new technology. The job market will not stay the same forever, but there will be new needs and also some constants such as touring that will keep it grounded. By using some of the advice I found while doing this project, I hope to be able to find a job or at least know how to search for one better once I graduate in three years.
